You're Hired! 2004-06-13, 10:10 p.m. On Friday afternoon, I was offered the Dream Job. I am beside myself with joy, because tomorrow morning, I'm going to quit my current job. My last day will probably be July 9, depending on some administrative crap I need to slog through, but basically, I have four weeks to go and I cannot believe it. I've been thinking about leaving my current job for over a year now, and now I feel like a huge burden has been lifted off of my shoulders. So what exactly is the Dream Job? Well, I've been hired to be a Residence Director at a top-tier liberal arts school in Illinois, and I start training on July 19th. I'll also be coordinating special projects for the Dean of Students and the Department of Student Affairs. It is a 10 ½ month position, with the pay spread over 12 months, and I'll be attending graduate school at a local state university starting in January 2005. I'm very excited about my new boss, my co-workers, and the student staff at the university, and I feel like this is the right thing for me to do at this time. I'm also very excited about the casual dress code, access to AIM during the day, starting my office hours in the late mornings, having time off at the holidays and other school breaks, and having six weeks off each summer. If you have any advice on how to coordinate the perfect move, I'd love to hear it. Now if you'll excuse me, I should be packing.
