Finally Friday 2004-05-28, 8:11 p.m. In 24 hours, I’ll be in Oklahoma! I’m in dire need of a girly weekend escape, and I hope this one will be fun. I mean, of course it will be fun, because how do you not have fun with Kate and Dawnie? I just hope it goes without incidents and gnashing of teeth and drama, as in, we don’t want any drunken injuries or lost luggage and we want everyone to like me. That’s right – I’m going to spend three days with two people I’ve never met in real life. But I’m prepared – a few weeks ago, I had my first Internet Celebrity sighting when I had dinner with the lovely and gracious Allison. So if I do okay this weekend, I will be a natural by the time J-Con rolls around. I will not be tempted to squee when I finally meet Molly, Chiara, Rebekah, or anybody else. Oh, who am I kidding? I’m such a dork. Really, I’m just relieved this week is over, because I had a monstrous presentation today (at 4 p.m. on the Friday before a holiday weekend), and I am sooo far behind in my work and I have one more week before a new staff person starts who will eventually be an asset, but I don’t have time to train him and dear god, would somebody please just come over and pack for me and do my laundry and paint my toenails and take out the garbage and feed the cats? I am so good at stressing myself out, that I can almost feel my blood pressure rising. So, as part of the mandated Summer of Fun, I’m going to stop as much of the stress as I can. It’s not good for my health and I have so many happy things to focus on, that I don’t need to stress about every damn detail of the entire world. So from now on, I’m not working any weekends if I can help it – it’s just a job. I’m going to watch a lot of movies and I’m going to spend sunny weekend afternoons sit outside soaking up the sun by the pool. I’m going to try to find a new job but if it gets stressful, then I’ll take a break. I’m going to remember to breathe and to take naps and to relax. I might even make out with someone while I’m in Oklahoma. Have a great loooong weekend! Go out and do something scandalous.
