By Dawnie 2004-03-23, 3:12 p.m. Dawnie graciously agreed to write a guest entry for me, and she is the first in what I hope will be a series of funny, pretty Mathletes writing funny entries or introspective entries or writing entries that are much different from mine. Anyway, it makes me sad that Cincinnati (and Cleveland) are so far away from Missouri because of Dawnie.
Jana asked me to write this guest entry weeks ago. I was flattered and immediately accepted - of course I'll do it, I said. When does it need to be done? What should it be about? I was all pumped and ready to go. She told me it could be about anything, and it would be great if I could do it before the end of the month. End of the month? Sure! No problem! That's plenty of time! Then, in true Dawnie style, I did absolutely nothing with it until now. When I realized, "Hey, the end of the month is next week! I gotta get rolling on that, yo." As usual, when writing for a different audience, I get all choked up. Jana's a good writer. She has Things To Say, unlike my daily drivel about cats and knitting (hee - yes, I am shamlessly plugging myself, don't mind me) and beauty products and dance aerobics instructors. Although, Jana has told me that she likes my drivel, so maybe I'm putting too much pressure on myself, here. Especially because it's giving me some wicked nasty performance anxiety, and that's just no good. OK. Deep breath. All better now. Of course, I still have no freakin' clue what to make this entry about, but that's beside the point. I'll just wing it. Luckily, journal entries wing pretty well. Much like cooking, but very much unlike baking. So wing away I shall. This year, I totally suckered Jana into saying she'll go to JournalCon. It's kind of like what happened to me last year - I kind of wanted to go, but I don't have a Big Popular Journal, so I wasn't sure if it was really for me. Would I have fun? Would anyone know who I was? I voiced this concern on the MATH boards, which I had just recently joined, and was immediately told that I had to go, and they would all love me if no one else would. OK. All set. Now I needed a roommate. The lovely Rebekah agreed to room with me, since she was in much the same position as I. I'd never met or exchanged a single word with her, electronic or otherwise. And we'd just agreed to share a hotel room for a weekend event 5 months in the future. It was all a little crazy. However, as time passed, and Rebekah and I exchanged more and more e-mails, it became apparent that we would have a rockin' good time together, as we were bascially the same person. Except she lives in Connecticut. And is an accountant. Me, not so much either of those. But that's about it. As October drew closer, we got more and more excited about finally meeting in person and all of the crazy-ass fun we were going to have. Which we did. It rocked. Yay. So, shortly after Jana and I started e-mailing about, um, something. I have no idea what, but I do remember that some of our first e-mail exchanges focused on hair products that bear a disturbing resemblance to certain bodily fluids and the idiocy of the male of the species. Also, the fact that we are crazy cat ladies. Anyhow, shortly after we started e-mailing, she started voicing waffley opinions about going to JournalCon. She'd just started a journal, wasn't sure if she'd have a good time, blah blah been there done that and whatnot. I told her she had to go. Had to. To make sure she didn't have any other excuses, I offered her the 4th spot in our room (the 2nd and 3rd spots already being taken up by Rebekah and Kate, some of my fellow Redheaded Angels). After we promised to make her an honorary redhead for the weekend, she took it. Yay! So, this year, in addition to looking forward to seeing Rebekah, Kate, and tons of other people again, I now get to look forward to meeting Jana and partying down with her for the weekend. It will rock. I'm sure of this. I mean, how could it not?
Heehee. Now I've outed Jana's plan to go to JournalCon to the world.
She's stuck with us now.
