My Weekend in Dullsville 2004-02-20, 10:55 p.m. Happy Anniversary, Molly! Today I woke up at 8:30, which is usually the time I am rushing out the door in order to park my car in the garage, run up the hill, go through security, manage to snag an elevator that’s sitting on the ground floor waiting for me, and slink into my office by 9:00. I somehow managed to get out the door at 8:45 with very wet hair and without my carefully planned low-POINTS lunch, did not see a single cop on the way so I drove like a crazy woman, hit every green light, and still made it to my desk by 9:00. Karma is on my side today, for sure. (It’s weird, nobody cares when I show up, and they all tease me about being the last one to stroll in every day, but I feel like a horrible slacker on the days when I show up at 9:20.) I could not stop yawning today and it was hard to resist the temptation to lock my office door and take a short nap in there, as if I was George Costanza or something. I even went to bed before midnight last night, which never happens, so I have no excuse for my chronic tiredness. And no, I’m not pregnant. I’m really looking forward to a nice weekend. I stayed in tonight to catch up on TiVo viewing and do some cleaning, which of course I did not do because I had more fun learning how to change my sidebar. One benefit of my recent cleaning spree is that I discovered that I have a lot of duplicate possessions, so I’m sending packages of cookbooks to Mathletes and some miscellaneous books and stuff to my sister. I love being able to pass on things like that to people that will use them and I am in disbelief at not only how much stuff I have accumulated since I moved here nearly two years ago but how I have managed to duplicate so much of that stuff in that short amount of time. Now that I think about it, I have probably doubled my library, doubled the size of my wardrobe, and acquired ten times as many kitchen/bath items as I had before I moved here. Ridiculous. I’m working on purging the stuff I don’t use so that I don’t need to hire an 18-wheeler when I move. Somehow, I am very good at distracting myself with my organizing obsession. Anyway, tomorrow I am spending the day with T. We’re going out for breakfast and watching the Missouri/Baylor game, and then going to Cr0wn Center to shop, go to dinner, and see a movie. Cr0wn Center is also home to the H@llmark Cards HQ, and we’ll probably go tour the Visitors’ Center because they let you make a bow on their bow machine and they have lots of cool displays about cards, and lord knows I’m H@llmark’s bitch. And plus, the wee little bows are lots of fun and you just have to make one every time you’re near the Visitor’s Center. I probably have a dozen of them in various nooks and crannies in this apartment. My plan is to go to dinner at this greasy diner-type place that has little trains running all around the place to bring your food and drinks to you. The total tab for two people who pig out a lot to cure their hangovers is usually about $10 and the food is awesome. Plus, the train delivery system means that there are no surly waitstaff with potential to ruin your evening and you get to tip the busboys instead. And, I think we’re going to see the Barbershop movie. (I love Ice Cube and my secret boyfriend Sean Patrick Thomas is in it too. Actually, Queen Latifah probably makes my List of Five on the girls’ side, so there’s lots of pretty and funny people in this movie and it can’t suck as bad as, oh, I don’t know, crappy movies starring Ray Romano. Everybody loathes Ray Romano in my world.) We haven’t spent an entire day together in a long time, and I’m really looking forward to it. In other news, my very favorite gay man, The BGK, called me last night to confess that he sent me the mystery flowers that I got on Valentine’s Day. I will definitely have to write more about him soon because he is Crazy and he lives in San Francisco and I love him so much that it makes me tear up every time I think about him. It’s nice to get constant confirmation that I have such great friends, and that they are thoughtful and generous and loving even though they’re scattered all over the country. And my MATH+1 lab partner is AWESOME. And, she’s funny as hell – who thinks to send a person e-cards of hairy backs and also writes songs to go with the photos? My lab partner. She is awesome and she might punch me if I schmoop about her, but I love this secret pal thing and mine somehow knows exactly when to send nice e-cards and presents to me to make the blahs go away. And, the person I’m surprising this month seems to have no clue that it’s me, which is also awesome.
